A blocked drain is one of the most common reasons customers call our plumbers. At DTS Plumbing, we’ve got years of experience servicing blocked drains across Geelong – from kitchen and bathroom sinks, to toilets showers and strormwater drains.

What causes a blocked drain?

A blocked drain is the result of a build-up of materials, which can lead to serious internal and external structural damage, including compromised foundations.

Waterlogging can result in mould deposits, leading to health problems. Worse, sewage leakage leaves a nasty smell, and can spread bacteria.

Common items that cause blocked drains include:

  • hair and soap scum, especially in the bath or shower
  • bits of food
  • toys
  • thicker ply toilet paper
  • sanitary products
  • cardboard and other heavier materials
  • sticks, leaves and other natural debris.

If detected early, most blocked drains can be fixed with a high-pressure drain jet treatment to clear the blockage. In cases where the blockage isn’t obvious, CCTV drain cameras are used to examine the drain and determine the best course of action.

When blocked drains are the result of structural damage, underground pipe detection technology is required to excavate and repair the pipe. This is commonly caused by tree roots entering pipes through a crack and continuing to grow inside the pipe, preventing proper drainage.
